Sandstone Terrace refers not to our vineyard source for this wine, but to the underlying geology that makes the vineyard and wine special. Underneath the clay and sandy clay loams that characterize much of the southern Santa Cruz Mountains is a bed of weathered sandstone, mudstone and shale. These soils were formed on ancient marine terraces, whose close proximity to the coast give the wine it’s classy, cool-climate Syrah character.
Dark purple and medium-full bodied. Characters of boysenberry and potpourri dominate, with grilled meat and black pepper in the background. Rich in both acidity and tannins, this wine will benefit from decanting.
